[VIDEO] Commentating on the fastest ever lap of Le Mans

Writing to you from the Eurosport commentary booth here at a very hot Le Mans, and still in awe of the spellbinding lap we saw last night from Toyota driver, Kamui Kobayashi, to seal pole position for tomorrow's race and smash the all time lap record here at this most daunting of circuits. In an evening which saw countless records smashed across the classes, Kamui's lap was far from the only one worth celebrating, but the sheer pace of it will leave it etched in the minds of all who witnessed it. My hat is firmly tipped - 'chapeau' Kamui!

Having just submitted my write up of the limited-edition 1999 Aston Martin V8 Vantage 'Le Mans', I am nervously awaiting the final edit of the film we shot while testing the car. Invited by noted Aston Martin heritage dealers, Nicholas Mee & Co, to try the car at Longcross Proving Ground last week, it was the first time I've not only conducted the track test, but written the script and presented my story to camera. It's an astonishing car with a lovely history. Built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of 1959 Aston Martin's Le Mans win, just 40 were made, each with frankly absurd amounts of power.

You'll have to wait for final publication to read my full findings, but suffice to say I was rather impressed. A luxurious lover and bruising fighter all at once, it must be the most versatile car of all but the last few years. Like a lot of cars from the nineties, it's been strangely overlooked by the collecting community up to now, but I suspect it's time has come. Stay peeled for the full edit...

2013 Le Mans & WEC entry list as a spreadsheet!

Staying abreast of the available seats in sports car racing can be a challenge at the best of times, so I tend to pull together a spreadsheet every winter and keep it as up to date as I can. All of this information is on the web, but I like to add my own notes/edits so an Excel just works better.

To save you the trouble of compiling your own, here's one for both WEC and Le Mans 2013 entry lists as per the announcements this week.

Truth in 24

Wow, further to the last post, I just spotted Truth in 24 - in FULL - on YouTube! I had no idea it was on there. If you haven't seen this, you have got to watch it - arguably the finest motor sport documentary ever (right up there with 'Senna'). Probably my most regularly visited source of inspiration and motivation also. Thanks Audi of America.
