Versatile British racing driver, Sam Hancock, has been invited to contest this year's Goodwood Revival Meeting aboard a glorious 1952 Jaguar C-Type of special significance.
The car, owned by notable collector and historic racer, Stefan Ziegler, is admired for its originality and tremendous history, having been one of the first three C-Types offered to privateer customers, in this instance the the famed Ecurie Ecosse outfit who campaigned it with great success in period. Hancock will share the car with Ziegler in a ninety minute endurance race on Friday evening that is intended to echo the legendary Goodwood Nine Hour events.
Former Le Mans Series champion and Aston Martin Racing factory driver, Hancock regularly drives a variety of Ziegler's cars as part of an ongoing driver coaching programme. Recently at Dijon in France, Hancock set the fastest lap of the GT & Sports Car Cup race in an E-Type shared by the duo, before helping Ziegler to his first ever podium, taking his Lister Knobbly to second overall in the Stirling Moss Trophy.
London-based Hancock has become a noted Goodwood specialist and made regular appearances at the Revival Meeting since 2005 when he took the Whitsun Trophy pole position, race victory and set the outright fastest lap of the entire meeting aboard Sir Anthony Bamford's Ford GT40. To add the C-Type to his roster of previous Goodwood steeds that includes a Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari 196s Dino, Lightweight Jaguar E-Type, Jaguar D-Type and a variety of Lotus is clearly something that thrills Hancock.
"I'm really chuffed to be invited back," said the Londoner. "It's one of my favourite events of the year and a track I love. It's a huge privilege to race these very special cars and not a responsibility that I take lightly. I expect that this particular car's originality will see it struggle on pace compared to its more developed rivals, so we'll concentrate on looking after her and enjoying ourselves."
The Goodwood Revival Meeting takes place on 13-15th September 2013.
