Endurance Racing Legends announce ‘GT-only’ Spa 24h support races

Peter Auto have just announced a one-off new event for their Endurance Racing Legends series in support of this year’s Spa 24 Hours.

The world famous blue-ribbon enduro has been contested by GT cars for over thirty years and, in celebration of that illustrious history, prototypes are understandably (but sadly) not invited to this one.

Instead, the GT-only grid will be bolstered by an additional category that would not normally fulfill the Endurance Racing Legends criteria: FIA GT3 cars from 2006 to 2010 inclusive.

Think Lamborghini Gallardos, Corvette Z06Rs, Audi R8 LMS et al, duking it out with the Aston Martin DBR9s, Porsche RSRs, Ferrari 550 Maranellos etc. that we are accustomed to seeing at ERL events.

It promises to be a spectacular gathering of GT exotica, from what is arguably the most exciting era of the category’s long history. The formal inclusion of GT3 is another glimpse of non-ACO-category GT cars being welcomed into the orbit of an established historic racing organisation and one wonders if this signals the start of an emerging new niche for the market (more on this to follow).

The Spa 24 Hours takes place from the 28th - 31st July and ERL competitors can expect significant track time, with 2x 45 min qualifying sessions, and 2x 45min races. It is not yet clear if pit-stops will be mandated to provide for two-driver line ups but competitors should note that championship points will not be awarded and the races will not form a part of the 2022 Endurance Racing Legends season.
